About the 192badours open mic community

The 192badours open mic community is an inclusive collection of musicians, music fans, family and friends. The name 192badours is a portmanteau of “192 Brewing” (our long time venue) and “Troubadour”. We welcome all skill levels, music genres, and life backgrounds. Our community composition is both dynamic and durable, with many people coming every week, and others showing up once every few years, and everything in between. Many performers have formed bands together, or started their own open mic series at other venues.

Our open mic format

We have a unique format, and if you’ve never been please read on!

  • Sticks: We kick off the night (typically at 6pm) with all performers drawing a random numbered stick between 1 and 18 from a bucket.
  • Signup: Once all sticks are pulled or 6:30pm (whichever comes first) is reached, then the host calls out each number in order and people come up to return that stick and select what slot they want to sign up for. First person gets to choose from any time slot (first, 10th, whatever!), and last person gets whatever slot is left.
  • Host Performance: Host kicks off the evening with a few musical numbers and lets everyone know how much time they have to play, generally from 6 to 15 minutes depending on number of performers signed up.
  • Your Performance: Once it’s your turn, the host will start a timer while you come up, plug in your gear and get on the mic! Your time includes your setup time so please be aware of when you’ll be up, be ready to go, and keep your setup simple. We rarely pull the plug when time is up, but please be respectful of that time limit so we can make sure everyone has time to play.

Some other things to know

  • We welcome and celebrate performers of all skill levels. Just started playing? We love it! Virtuoso performer with decades of experience? Fantastic, please show up with a supportive attitude for everyone still on the journey. Be nice!
  • We are a community and there tend to be a lot of conversations going all night long. If you want to perform to a rapt, silent audience, this might not be your vibe. Also though, while others are playing do be respectful to musicians, tune in and pay attention, and keep your voices down.
  • We will often share 192 centric band performances on our email list or Facebook page. Come out to these shows and support your friends. If you are a community member and have an event to share, please email us. If you play more than a couple times a quarter just ask to share your most important show, to leave room for other bands to share the spotlight. If you’ve never showed up or very rarely do, it’s kind of uncool tbh to ask us to share your event. Be part of the community!

Our history

This open mic community was established more than a decade ago by Jeff Alexander at the 192 Brewing Lakehouse Taproom in Kenmore, WA. Then solo hosting responsibilities were carried by Ryan Waggoner for many years. Eventually a rotating group of hosts Bob Graff, Matt Biery, Mark & Kristin Dibeh took over. This group led us through the pandemic era, when we met on Zoom every week, returning to in person open mics in summer of 2021. Recently hosting duties are rotating between Jeff Crookall, Collin Guyor and Mark & Kristin Dibeh.

At time of writing in January 2026 our community is entering a new phase, after the announcement that the 192 Brewing Lake Trails Taproom is closing, and we are on the hunt for a new home or a new way of staying together. 192 Brewing will carry on, and so will this community.
